Inclusive café for and with people with disabilities

In 2013, we started our Albanian pioneer project ‘Betesda Coffee’. We were able to inaugurate the first inclusive café for people with and without disabilities in Albania. In our Betesda Coffee, people with disabilities have the opportunity to work in a paid job according to their individual abilities.

According to official figures, about 140.000 people with disabilities live in Albania. About 80% of them were not able to attend school. Without a school diploma, the progress to qualified job training is closed off. Because of this, people, including people with minor degrees of disabilities, are being prevented from leading a life of autonomy, dignity and social respect. They are dependant on a small rent and support from their extended family.
